My daughter just showed me the You tube video of Susan Boyle from the program Britian’s Got Talent.  What an awesome story.  What an amazing talent.  How sad that so many can’t appreciate or even see the beauty of not only this amazing woman but of her outstanding talent.

Because I am a cynic where people are concerned (and I am NOT a Simon Cowel fan) I looked at some things that have been written about Ms. Boyle since she knocked the judges and jaded audience on their collective backsides.  These seem to be the main facts.  She is 47 years old, single, a (excuse the term) virgin, lives alone with her cat (Pebbles), is unemployed (after caring for her 91 year old mum), goes to church, has some kind of learning disability and sings like an angel.

Susan (if I may be so bold as to use her first name without permission) breaks so many of todays cherished ideals that it is almost impossible not to like her;

She’s old- after all 47 is over the hill, it’s all over for her, no one ever does anything worthwhile after 30

She’s single- everyone must be married, several times at least.  With multiple children from multiple partners living with one this week in one city, state, country and jetting, busing or driving multiple miles to live with the other next week.  And after all anyone not having sex daily is repressed, frigid and emotionally scarred at least according to Freud, Jung and Oprah.

I’m not even going to comment on the “virgin” description.  Just as I would not comment on the “whore” description of any Hollyweird starlett. The fact that someone saw fit to make an issue out of it, says more than I ever can about the deplorable state of our society.

Lives alone with her cat – Gee I really would like to know when it became a source of humor and derision for people to have a pet, to have a cat as a pet  or to live alone.  While I realize most people can’t exist without an audience to play to every day, not all of us are or have to be the center of everyones attention. There are actually people who are quite sane, that  live  alone because they want to or because they have never found anyone they wanted to spend that much time with.  There are those who like to live alone because they don’t very much like people and after watching Susan’s clip no one should wonder why ( people are quite often mean, obnoxious and hateful)

She goes to church- well that right there labels her as a right wing extremist.  Religious people are of course the most hate filled, intolerant, violent, vicious and untalented group of people ever to draw breath on the planet.  No talent hacks, especially bloggers and commentators.

She has a learning disability- this obviously didn’t stop her from singing, taking care of her mum and her pet.  She went toe to toe with Simon and managed to over come the nastiness she’s been exposed to over 47 years.

The thing that makes me the saddest however are those who comment that someone that looks like her could sing so well.  Since when did having good looks mean someone is talented.  Since Hollywood convinced us that only those with beautiful faces and chiseled bodies are really talented probably.  We have begun to see in the last several year though that beauty, talent and sense are not necessarily compatible.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Susan Boyle is a natural, real beauty.  I wish her lots of luck.  Dealing with the sharks and crooks in the entertainment industry she’s going to need it. That said God sent an angel to sing here on earth.

Her name is Susan

Wow. I’ve finally arrived. According to Janet ( former governor of Arizona ) Napolitano who can’t seem to use the word terrorist to describe our enemies but can use the word extremists to describe people who think that the government has too much power and should be held accountable for it’s actions, I am a radical, right wing extremist.

“Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines rightwing extremism in the United States” as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.

The dictionary defines “radical” as ;

a person who holds or follows strong convictions or extreme principles, extremist; or a person who advocates fundamental political economic and social reforms by direct and often uncompromising methods

So I join the ranks of some outstanding folks.  Jefferson, Adams, Paine, Martin Luther, John Wesley, John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Gahndi,  and many, many more.  Thanks Janet.

Look who’s advocating marching in lock step now.  I wonder when the arm bands and group graphics will come out and how long it will take for the witch hunts to begin.

No one expects the Liberal Inquisition.  Well almost no one……………but I do.
