Today’s entry in the “Mass Media still don’t get it” competition comes from ……………..wait for it. The New York Times. Now lately there have be glimmers of sanity, nebulous true, and slightly ephemeral. Signs that some in the media have thrown off their “Red Colored” glasses and noticed how very close we stand to the precipice. Unfortunately for all of us not nearly enough have relearned objectivity. You know, that’s where you gather the facts and present them to the public and LET THEM make up their own minds. You don’t use certain facts because they bolster your point, you don’t use certain words for their connotations, for or against a subject. You strive to be as emotionless and unopinionated as possible. It is difficult to do and today almost impossible to find but it is possible.

Shall we take today’s entry for instance. The New York Timesoffered this article in it’s Week in Review. In it the author Matt Bai tries to appear objective in his assessment of ” David Kirkham, the former Eagle Scout and Mormon missionary”. The fact that Mr Kirkman runs and owns his own company with manufactures custom cars, employing not only people in his own community to work in his factory but also in a factory in Poland where the leftovers of Socio-Communist control has stifled entrepreneurship until it is almost deceased, is not enough. He had to add the aside, pointing out to the left thinkers that this man was already a zealot. After all no “real” people are Boy Scouts any more (ie xenophobic, homophopic) and let’s not even go into the whole Mormon bashing methodology.

Then there’s this lovely bit of accidental damage “Then came the Republican-led bank bailouts in 2008”. Huh? Who is the head of the banking commission again, who’s on the Senate committee again, who in 2008 caused a run on a bank, something not seen since the Great Depression? Well, from the lists available to me, there are 13 Democrats with Chairman Chris Dodds and little Chucky Schumer in control as opposed to the 10 Republicans of which Senator Bill Bennett from Utah, who the Utah Tea Party managed to defeat. Just how is that a “Republican” led.

The Dodd-Frank bail out was one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation to come through Congress in a long, long time. According to my count, which is probably flawed when the vote was taken 19 Republicans voted for it (several of which were from CA which means they’re not conservatives, just Republicans) out of 435, or so not including the ones who just voted present? In the Senate 40 Democrats and 33 Republicans voted for the bailout, along with Joe Lieberman. How is this a Republican -led measure? Did they do it by mind control? Remote control?

But to me the crux of the matter is the blatant disregard of the validity of Krikman and those who belong to conservative organizations point of view, as follows ” he started doing what a lot of sickened and powerless people do in the Internet age” and

“What we are seeing now — and are bound to see more of in the years ahead — might better be described as a series of mini-movements. They come together quickly, almost like flash mobs, anointing leaders overnight and reaching peak intensity within weeks or months. They create a satisfying outlet for frustration and a means for social connection.

You can try to reason with the David Kirkhams of the world, or adopt their rhetoric. The one thing you can’t do, it seems, is wish the new reality away.

Here’s the reality of the situation. There will always be those who think government is not doing enough. They need to go back to Europe or South America or Asia and experience what giving up your freedoms really mean. I don’t say that with vitriol. They really do need to go where they would be happier. There are on the flip side those who distrust government and those associated with it. In anarchy there is profit, someone once opined. The majority of us simply want what our Constitution guarantees us. The freedoms our fore-fathers fought so hard to win and keep as well as leaders who listen to “We The People” because frankly they serve at out indulgence and behest. Not because they’re smarter or better or richer but because they offered to serve in that capacity.

The statue of blind justice needs to have a twin and that twin needs to be installed in front of every newspaper office in the country. Justice and journalism must be objective or they must be replaced.

My opinion of the manner in which a newspaper should be conducted so as to be most useful [is]… ‘by restraining it to true facts and sound principle only.’ Yet I fear such a paper would find few subscribers. It is a melancholy truth, that a suppression of the press could not more completely deprive the nation of its benefits than is done by its abandoned prostitution to falsehood.” –Thomas Jefferson to John Norvell, 1807. Now let’s all get on the same page. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chucky Schumer, Barney Frank, and the cast of Democrats fighting for their political lives have been in power for how long? Their answer is “not long enough to fix the mess Bush left us”. The real answer is quite some time. Pelosi has been in Congress since 1987, Reid since 1883, Frank since 1980 (he succeeded a priest in MA go figure), little Chuckie Schumer also arrived in DC in 1980. But let’s not dwell on the distant past. Let’s focus on just the last few years.

Contrary to what they would have you believe the Democrats have been in power 4 loooooong years. That’s right, they were in power DURING George Bush’s last term. THEY were the obstructionist during Bush’s last two years. They were the ones who refused to reign in Fanny and Freddie even after an administration advisor, Gregory Mankiw ,TOLD them that the current system was unsustainable. In Nov. 2003, yes that would be 7 years ago, the administration was warning Congress that Fannie and Freddie couldn’t be trusted to police themselves.

Mankiw’s remarks to the Conference of State Bank Supervisors come as the administration and lawmakers push to overhaul the regulatory framework for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which earlier this year admitted to understating its profit by $4.5 billion. See full story.

Due to the enormous size of the mortgage-backed securities market, any problems at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would have a ripple effect, Mankiw said.

“This risk is a systemic issue also because the debt obligations of the housing GSEs are widely held by other financial institutions,” he said.

In 2003.

In a 2009 appearance before Congress Barney Frank testified that

Congress will eventually want to change the model of the government-sponsored enterprises. But, he added that Democrats already have imposed major reforms requested by the Bush administration.

6 years between the time the Bush administration told Congress that something HAD to be done. 3 years since the Democratic takeover of Congress. What are they waiting for the moon to turn red, the Second Coming, Frank to tell the truth?

Then there’s the banking mess. While I’m sure there is plenty of blame to go around, this was one of the worst excesses of Congressional power it has been my misfortune to witness.

Schumer’s letter on June 26 said he was “concerned that IndyMac’s financial deterioration poses significant risks to both taxpayers and borrowers.” But after Friday’s statement, Schumer swiftly rejected any suggestions of responsibility for IndyMac’s collapse — and in a Sunday news conference, he said “everything” in his letter was already known to the public.

If this man is so stupid that he didn’t know what an incendiary letter like that would do to the reputation of a financial institution that’s already experiencing difficulties he has no business being a Senator, much less being on the Senate Banking Committee. I would ask if he had to take any history classes in college but as a Democrat they rewrite history to please themselves and prove whatever point they’re trying to make, so that doesn’t really apply. He should have been impeached, disbarred and arrested, just as someone yelling fire in a crowded theater would have been. His actions were irresponsible and reprehensible. They set the stage for the debacle now occurring. From the Wall Street Journal February 2009:

As far as commercial banks go, Federal Reserve data released last week show that their lending increased 2.36% during the last quarter of 2008. For all of 2008, commercial-bank lending rose by $386 billion, or 5.63%, even as the economy slid into recession. Over that 12-month period, business lending jumped $152 billion, or 10.6%, real-estate loans were up $213 billion, or 5.9%, and consumer lending rose $73.5 billion, or 9%. Other categories of bank lending such as loans to farmers, broker-dealers and governments, declined $53.2 billion, or 5.4%.

Fed data also show that during the first three quarters of 2008, the total amount of credit supplied to the economy increased $1.91 trillion, or 3.8%, with $540 billion of that amount coming from foreign lenders.

Nevertheless, Treasury recently demanded that the 20 largest recipients of government capital investments start providing detailed monthly reports about their lending and investment activities. This new requirement could lead to government lending mandates. That would not be a good idea.

So yet again. Who are these people scrambling for their political lives? Are they servants of the public trust or swine at the government trough. All of this information and more is just a mouse click away. Be aware, be informed, be smart. Vote them all out. The new people my be inexperienced but at least, unlike the current administration, they have a moral compass………

……..and even know where to find it.

From the rise of Napolean to the ascent of Hitler there have been symathizers and appearsers of tyranny, depotisms. From the elite to the intelligensia to the ignorant, the forces of evil have found fertile ground in which to grow their caustic, poisonous blend of evil under the guise of ” equality, liberty, fraternity,” for some. Control, enslavement and death for those who either will not bend or those who are deemed not valuable enough.

Today it is the rise of Islam and it’s accompanying Sharia law which threatens the very fabric of our eternites. The propagandists and appeasers would have us believe that alternately “Islam is a religion of peace” or ” if we don’t make them mad, sad or aware of our existence they’ll leave us alone”. Both are, as history has shown us, concepts that are complete lies and fabrications as well as being completely useless.

Evil never sleeps. It is never satisfied. It’s voracious appetite is never whetted. It continues to crave power and control over the minds and souls of men. Money, land and possessions are only the vehicles used to further it’s aims. It is all about the souls and the entity who desires them. While many would have you believe that this is not true that in itself is testimony of the truthfulness of the argument. Why make so much over a faulty belief, why fight so desperately against a flawed ideal?

The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum. Whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no compromise on basic principles.

Freedom loving people have always been at war with the forces of slavery and despotism. Communism, socialism, fascism are all really the same -ism and have the same end, the enslavement of the human soul. Only one entity has that as their stated and published goal.

Islam is no different. Religion, as long ago Crusaders learned, enforced by the sword, creates fare-weather adherents at best, impatient enemies at worst. We stand at the precipice, there is no going back, no do overs, no take backs.

A quote contributed to Edmund Burke but supposedly not uttered by him says;

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

It’s a great quote no matter who said it.

Believe or not, it’s your funeral.
