So today in 2012, this is the price of your 1st amendment rights. You make an analogy that someone doesn’t like and you get the boot. It doesn’t matter how many liberals before you have done so to political leaders in the past . It doesn’t matter that you didn’t say nor did you infer that a political leader was “just like Hitler”. You had the audacity to compare that a Obama/Boehner pairing was akin to a Hitler/Netanyahu one. As Kathleen Parker put it “Two guys who are enemies aren’t likely to play golf.”.
She also mentioned the approximately 13,900,000 entries you find when you google Bush/Hitler (this is my favorite of the ones I found but truthfully I didn’t spend days going through them all) All sorts of people who should have been fired or boycotted or subjected to invective and ridicule made this list. You know what happened to most of them? Nothing, not a single blessed thing. Which is as it should be. If you don’t like someone’s analogy , too bad-so sad, especially if it doesn’t concern you directly. While some on the right were enflamed about the comments comparing GWB to Hitler most simply laughed at the stupidity of the remark and moved on. Those on the left however are so personally involved, have such high stakes in and/or are unable to separate “feelings” from rational thought, that they can not or will not understand that some people think/feel/ believe differently than they. (gasp, shock, shaking head, tears in eyes)
As we have seen in the last 5 years (since Dems took over the Congress then the White House) this is what happens when you govern by emotional excess. We’ve had the whiners, the cryers (including RINO’s) the screechers, the bombasts. These people should be given what they want because they “care sooooooooo much”. They’re only trying to help the (sniffle, wipes tears from eyes, voice raspy with emotion) poor, hungry, downtrodden, displaced, disenfranchised, depressed, …………and the list goes on. If they make millions of dollars for themselves and their friends who are we to quibble? Wait you might say don’t conservatives do the same thing? Why yes they do, but as a business not as a purported philanthropy. It’s a hypocrisy issue not a profit issue.
So I guess that soon Hitler will go the way of all the other words we’re not allowed to use in polite company. Except for the protected classes that is. Some people have it right. Words convey thoughts, thoughts control actions and when you drive ideas underground they usually erupt, eventually, with sometimes disastrous results. In the musical 1776 depicting the Continental Congress Steven Hopkins Delegate from Rhode Island opines “in all my years I never heard, seen, nor smelled an issue that was so dangerous it couldn’t be TALKED about!”
Of course our forefathers were men of honor, integrity and vision. They had convictions and courage in said convictions. The thought of infringing on another mans freedom of expression was an anathema to them. It’s what they were fighting against. Thanks in great part to the inadequate and inane public education as far as history is concerned we have a nation filled with people who not only don’t know what the American Revolution was about, they don’t even know when it was fought or by whom.
Yesterday’s heros were fighters, todays zeros are whiners. And yes that is exactly what I mean.
