I usually don’t do local stories. I don’t want people spitting on me in the grocery store or harassing my children at their place of business or at school because their mom has opinions and sometimes shares them with abandon. But I just can’t help this. I can’t stand it. I’ve already taken a tranquilizer and it’s not helping one little bit. The saddest thing is, my child doesn’t even go to school here, but I’m afraid that this behavior by people who believe they have a right and privilege to reign and rule over those they are supposed to be serving just makes me want to “bust some wigs and split some caps” as Agent J would say. Parents not children pay their salaries. Parents not board members decide whether children go to school in USD 259 or if their parents can and many do and after this debacle many more will homeschool.
USD Board President Betty Arnold said in an open meeting concerning the closing of at least 5 local schools, whose students would now have to be bussed to schools farther away from their homes, “This board meeting is held in public, but it is not for the public, or ofthe public.” I include the video below. It’s long and you can find it early in the video but the arrogant behavior continues right on to the end. Watch at your own risk. I’m not responsible for anyone’s hair catching fire.
When we came to Wichita 22 years ago one of the most important decisions we made was where to live. We were discouraged by those we met to buy in Wichita due to nothing more than the state of the school system. Over the years I have seen and heard some amazing things come out of the district but this one takes the prize. Never have I seen more arrogant, elitist, rude and obnoxious behavior. It’s no wonder children don’t learn in Wichita schools. If teachers are encouraged to model the behavior on display by board members it’s no wonder the children have difficulties dealing with reality. The Duchy of 259 doesn’t extend very far and coming up against reality in the form of real schools, real jobs and real adults has to be a jolt for graduates.
Obviously hiring coaches to teach civics has had a long and sad history in the Wichita area. It’s erstwhile leaders need some remedial education in civics, government and etiquette.
In my faith we have scripture that describes what we’ve just seen;
We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.
but what do I know I’m just a taxpayer, I’m just here to provide the money. I don’t count. No not one jot or tittle.
