Today Coke pulled it’s backing from a group that supports voter ID laws. Why? Because left wing radicals claim that “voter ID” laws are being used and pushed to keep minorities from voting. That this is a specious argument goes without saying. That those who oppose the law also favor illegal immigration also goes without saying. So I have a suggestion that might help ally fears on both sides of this issue.
The vast majority of the supposed disenfranchised are minorities. The people who are supposedly being targeted are those who are poor, who receive assistance from the government or who are here illegally. Lets take a look at the first group.
- Those who are poor: Mandate that everyone who is of legal age and makes under $15, 000 have either a drivers license or government ID. In our district all children above 5th grade must have an ID card. From 6 th thru 9th grade that card is on a lanyard around their necks. They must have it every day. No excuses. If they don’t have it they go home and get it or a parent has to bring it in order for them to go to class.
- Anyone receiving assistance from the state or federal government should receive an ID card. This card should be issued after it is ascertained that the person receiving the assistance is a citizen of this country and entitled to the benefits of that citizenship.
- Now for my favorite category, the illegal aliens. This seems like such a no brainer, a duh moment that it’s almost unbelievable that we have to address this again. People who are here illegally are criminals. They broke the law, heck they probably broke a whole trunk load of laws. If they were in any other country, including Mexico, they’d be in jail or deported and not nicely either. They do not have the right or privilege to vote for anything. They do not have the rights granted to American citizens because the ARE NOT American citizens. They should be deported. If they choose to return in the right way, that’s up to them but they should not be allowed to stay just because they managed to sneak in, live off our taxes and squat on our land. We have borders for a reason. With all the issues that come with illegals the most important one for me is that once they’ve broken our law by crossing the border illegally what make anyone think they will then be fine upstanding citizens from then on. No, they will simply ignore any law they don’t like because it doesn’t really apply to them, “they’re not citizens”.
- And lets not forget the 2-3 million Democrats who don’t have ID’s according to Rep. James Clyburn D. SC. I would think that the party would be spending it’s time and resources educating their minions on the importance of having some kind of ID in the case of emergency. How is it these people don’t have a drivers license, a work ID card, a school ID, or something else that shows who they are and where they live? Of course this is the party of “vote early, vote often, vote illegal, vote dead” (I’m originally from the People’s Republic of Maryland so I have seen this kind of voter registration quite often).
I’m really not sure why showing an ID is such an issue. You have to do that to buy tobacco products, go to an R rated movie (if you look young), buy liquor, fly on a plane and any number of other times. If you don’t have an ID go to your local government office ( in our state the DMV handles this) they can give you an ID. If you have a drivers license show it. I you’re here illegally, go back to where you came from and come back legally.
Not Rocket Science, really. Even Dr. Sheldon Cooper could do this and we know what a tenuous grasp of reality he has.
