Now that both parties have had their conventions. Now that the candidates have finally been chosen. Now that both parties have trotted out their platforms, shaken them out, dusted them off (one actually tried to burn theirs down but someone rescued it, well sort of anyway). Now that all the drinking, drugging, indiscriminate sex has passed by in a politically infused haze. Now that the delegated have been seen in all their glory maybe we can segue back to reality for just a few moments.
Back in 2007 when McCain and Obama were running for president, the world was a shambles. Unemployment was high, recession was looming, wars were being fought, the end of the world was imminent, at least that’s what we were told. Who told us this, you might ask? Who were the experts in Armageddon American style?
Why our betters in the press. Those 2nd amendment protectors, those members of the truth vanguard. The very people many Americans trusted to bring them the truth. The Huntley/Brinkley/Cronkite/ Wallace/Morrow’s of the media who projected by sound or video into the living rooms of Jo and Jane Sixpack night after night with calm faces and melodious voices that brought the world into view and the country into focus. Those protectors of the truth, the soldiers of integrity, our media.
Unfortunately for us that isn’t what we had before 2007. We had Dan Rather, Katie Couric, Matt Laurer, Cokie Roberts, and the gang from Evening Edition. The bias was so very bad the Dan Rather lost his job in 2004 in a bid to falsify documents relating the military service of George W Bush. Ann Coulter made her name writing books in which to counter the liberal media all she had to do was quote them. Bernie Goldberg a long time CBS reporter left them after 30+ years because the stench of bias/bigotry/collusion/deception was so bad he couldn’t stomach it any more.
Four years ago the media GAVE us Barak Hussein Obama. They didn’t vet him, nor did they dig into his past. His friends, relations, supporters were not investigated. The only way we know about them is that by this time the alternative media had become a player and began to do the jobs American journalists wouldn’t or couldn’t do. We found out about Rev. Wright and “God damn America”. We found out about the close ties between Ayres and Obama. Unfortunately for the country many did not believe in the new media. They trusted the established media and the media in turn lied, covered up and refused to address the glaring problems with an Obama Candidacy.
Fast forward to today. Did anyone at the DNC address the increasing job loss, the malaise, the debt, the ennui? The presidents pithy little comment of “take a tax break and call me in the morning” could also be played to another tune. “Take a tax hike and call me in the morning”, or “pass another regulation and call me in the morning”, is the song this president has sung for 3 1/2 long years.
Job numbers also came out today and surprise the jobless numbers went down but take it from me (who has personal experience) hundreds of thousands of people have just given up. They can’t stay on the unemployment rolls because their state is doing just fine or their state doesn’t want to pay back the money or they’ve just given up because they don’t know someone who can get them an interview or they tired of being passed over in favor of some lazy, tatooed, pierced, twenty-something who’s customer service skills rank right up there with their hygiene habits or lack thereof.
So can you claim success when more and more people have been force out of the workforce and are living with family or on welfare and foodstamps. This president is the “foodstamp” president and it has nothing whatever to do with the color of his skin. He has managed to create equality alright more and more people of every color are now on public assistance and more and more people have given up. So yeah, we’re equally hopeless.
Congratulations to the media and THEIR president. They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. It is our turn to frame the debate and our turn to vet the candidates. While Romney and Ryan aren’t the greatest candidates every conceived of in our dreams they are the men we have to work with. Both are honest, have integrity, have business experience and education and are men who believe in a greater good, a greater entity then the government and know the meaning of the words “public service’.
This may be our last chance to get it right. Do we go with those who denied God thrice? Are we those people? Do we dare to go it alone, trust in the arm of the flesh, give up our claim to the protection of the divine?
Not me, as for me and my house we will continue to serve the Lord.
