Sorprendido Mucho ?

For the linguistically challenged the title means “surprised much?”  Anyone who is surprised by either the CIT’s(commander in thief) pick for Supreme Court Justice or his administrations draconian efforts to smother any and all criticism of Sotomayor has truly been living under a rock the size of Mt. St. Helen’s.  Apparently you must be “very careful” when talking about this woman.  Amazingly she must not be subjected to the same infamous grilling that characterized the Bork or Thomas hearing.  It seems that the Senate Judiciary Committee need not even bother to come in and interview her, they can simply call in their “Aye” votes from their vacation retreats in the Hamptons or where ever it is rich white people go for fun.

Let’s get a little taste of what we have to look forward to in the next 30+ years, because as I’m sure you are aware of there is no firing of Chief Justices.

Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice O’Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am not so sure Justice O’Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes that line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

Good to know.  I am sure that by this standard she will recuse use her self from any and all cases to do with anything she doesn’t have experience with personally.  Any cases to do with religious issues that are not of a Catholic flavor, any cases involving “white men”  “white women” or “white children”, blacks, asians, Middle easterners et al should be off limits as well as anything to do with technology, medicine, geriatrics …….the list goes on and on.  If she hasn’t had experience in these things how can she hope to pass judgement on them, according to, of course, her statement above.

Never mind that a Chief Justice should be impartial until they have heard the facts of the matter, never mind that it is NOT their job to be advocates, revisionists, constructionists or panderers. They should not be beholden to any political person, institution or cause.  Like journalists (ha ha) they should strive to be objective in their job and like most journalist fail miserably.

This woman is the Dolores Umbridge of the current administration.  If you don’t know who that is ask any Harry Potter fan.  They’ll give you a pretty fair description of the current nominee.

I hate it when life imitates are.  I hate it more when so few people even bother to notice.

I Tried, I Really, Really Tried

I have tried. Really.  I have .  I haven’t gone out with signs, I haven’t accosted people in the streets, I haven’t called local or national talk shows or emailed TV, radio and newspaper journalists.  But I am so very done.

Let’s see if you can follow my logic.  We have elected someone who:

Is ashamed of America

Goes to a church where the pastor for 20+ years incited hatred against those who were of a different color.

Seeks to undermine, nay destroy the institution of marriage.

Desires wealth distribution and the acceptance of illegal aliens.

Favors the killing of children born alive but unwanted by the creatures who unfortunatley are their parents.

Seeks the dismantlement of our military in favor of his very own “citizen army”. (complete with thugs, drug lords and gang bangers one would suppose)

Is trying desperately to sell our allies (Israel) down the tubes.

This last issue though is the straw which breaks my camels back.

He has promoted Harry Knox, prominent anti-catholic poster-boy to be on the “Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships”.  Not only does this “christian” believe the pope is a discredited leader but also believes that the New Testaments teaching about homosexuality are “wrong”.  As well as describing the Knights of Columbus as  “foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression” because of the Knights’ support of Proposition 8.”

The mind boggles when one imagines what he might say or propose the government do about those pesky “Mormons”, who also supported Prop 8.  We could see a federal “extermination order” just like the one that was recinded in 1974 after over a century on the books in Illinois, where it was legal to kill “mormons” for the good of the community.

Logic tells me that people who fight against the teachings of Jesus Christ are not Christians.  People who do not believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ are not Christians.  Those who are willing to compromise their principles and integrity for power are not Christians.

Which makes them  Anti-Christ.

Logically.

(Maybe it’s time to change the address of the White House to 666 Pennsylvania Ave.  Transparency in government and all that rot. Eh, what!)

Mothers Day 2009

This is always a bitter-sweet day for me.  As I post this the men in my family (the hubster, 2 son in laws and 2 sons) are in the kitchen.  This year we’re having “Breakfast for Dinner”.  They cook, they clean and they talk which is really the best part of the exercise.  The “women folk” are relegated to the living room and family room with the kids to relax and enjoy their day off.  

My family has over the years heard a lot from me on the adage “talk is cheap” so instead of mushy cards (which are fine if you like that kind of thing) or plants (which I will kill in the first week, black thumb you know) they actually do things that show not only that they love the women in there lives but that they appreciate how hard we work and how much we do.

Unfortunately other entities in my life are not as on the ball.  They tell women how important they are but they make no change in how they treat them on that day.  Women are expected to fulfill and meet all of their regular obligations if not more on this day.  In the past women were given this day off but now with their overwhelming presence especially in the workforce they are usually the ones waiting on you, serving your dinner or filling your order instead.  

So next year if you are so lucky to be able to take your wife, mother, significant other out to eat or to the store or wherever you go on Mother’s Day remember that many do not get to spend this day with their mother.  For those of us whose mothers have passed on this is the deepest cut of all. We can’t spend time with our moms and others are making it impossible for some to spend time with mother who are still alive.

For those of you who hate your mother’s, please remember especially today, your mother did not HAVE to give birth to you.  With Tiller Killer and his cabal there is no reason for any one to have a baby they don’t want.  So thank your mother.  You’re alive.
